[Review] LaserLyte LTS Universal Pistol Trainer Laser LT-PRO Pros

The LaserLyte Pistol Trainer Laser fits all of the most popular pistol calibers, mounts inside the barrel and has the sound activated switch showing bullet impact with a laser dot. Every time your hammer or striker fires the small laser dot will flash for 100 milli-seconds simulating bullet impact. The LaserLyte LTS Universal Pistol Trainer installs from the muzzle of the barrel and fits tight with the use of LaserLyte's patented arbor and taper system. The system will fit the weapons chambered in 9mm, 40S&W, 45 ACP that have a minimum of a 2 inch barrel. The LT-Pro will also fit calibers 38 special, .380 Auto, 357 Sig, 10 mm and 45 LC. This is simply the easiest way to train without ammo for any of your pistols with a 2-inch barrel or longer. The LaserLyte Pistol Trainer Laser LT-PRO is the most effective laser training system that will meet all your needs.

The Laserlyte LT-PRO is an awesome item I wish I had found sever hundred rounds ago! Simple to install and easy to operate! The shooter installs the batteries, adjust the plastic stopper, seat the LT-PRO in your weapons barrel, and I recommend chambering a Tipton Snap Cap, then begin your dry-fire practice. The click of your weapon firing activates the LT-PRO to place a laser dot exactly where the bullet would have impacted for a fraction of a second. I know its accurate because I, being a natural skeptic, have fired it from a fixed rest on a sighting target. When you are finished practicing, it pulls straight out. The applications are endless! I use mine indoors when I want to avoid cold, rain or when time doesnt allow a trip to the range or practice budget is slim. Imagine being able to practice different tactical situations like clearing your house with complete safety and seeing where your snap shots would have hit. If your weapon has an external hammer like my 1911s just re-cock the hammer, holster, and fire again. If your handgun is striker-fired, just rack the slide back enough to cock without ejecting the snap cap. No snap cap is required but I like my Tiptons so much I wouldnt practice without them. The only con against this item is the batteries. Mine will destroy a set of batteries (which are available at any Walmart jewelry counter) overnight. You must remove the batteries after use and reinstall them before next practice session. Pros: Use indoor or out, ... Read More...

My first use of the LaserLyte Pistol Laser Trainer was less than satisfactory. The first unit shipped did not function at all. Optics Planet promptly replaced it with a functioning unit - but it does not produce a light beam with every trigger pull. It may be a matter of my particular pistol or it may be a matter of fitting the unit tighter in the barrel. If I can solve the problem I will try to update my review. It will be a useful training device if I can get it to function more dependably. The concept is great. Pros: Good for trigger control practice Cons: Doesn't function with each trigger pull

I have a few different calibers so the flexibility of the LT-Pro is a perfect fit. I am new to pistols shooting and I wanted to beocme proficient. THe main caliber I use for trainging is in .40 S&W so the rounds can start adding up. Well after about 2-3 weeks of dry fire training, I am seeing the positive results. Before I was shooting low at 7 yards, now I am on target and getting better groupings. It is really helpful in that it shows if you have movement and proper placement which allowed me to see how I did with different grips ( trying to find the correct grip for myself) Advice on using: A. Remove batterries between uses ( careful not to lose them, they are small) B. This is really important as I thought I had a defective unit till I figured it out. Sometimes the Laser did not trigger, what it is is that if you don't screw in the battery cap fully and it is a little lose, the laser triggers inconsistantly. Once I figured out that I needed to make sure it was fully screwed in, no issues. Pro's:excellent trainer (next to live rounds) that will save on training cost. Con's: Need to constantly remove baterries between uses to no run them down. Highly recommend if you want to improve your shot with dry firing. Obviously, a day at the range is best. Pros: Excellent training weapon, saves money as opposed to live rounds Cons: Wish there was a way to shut off batterries easily

I bought this to train up for a Police Academy and was overall pretty happy with how it performed. The item seems to be well made and the laser is very accurate in relation to sight picture. It comes with two sets of batteries which is good because if your like me you won't read the directions about saving the little plastic piece you have to put back in after you use it to keep the batteries from dying. That is the crappy part. every time you use it you have to screw the back off and take out the tiny little plasic dot. Then you have to not lose it among all your gear untill your done working then screw the back off and put it back in. It really seems like they could have come up with a better on/off system. Hopefully the threads will hold up and don't wear out before the laser. If your looking for a good tool to work on trigger squeeze, breathing and other fundamentals it is worth the money. Pros: great way to work on fundamentals w/o going broke on ammo Cons: expensive batteries and difficult to turn on/off

Set up and use was very easy. Since the LaserLyte installs in the muzzle instead of the chamber there is no hassles dealing with the loading action of the firearm. Since the laser is easy to use, you tend to dry fire your gun a lot and should probably use a snap cap to protect your firing pin. I would also recommend using the device just as you would live rounds instead of hap-haphazardly dry firing and developing bad habits. You need to remove the very small batteries, which can be expensive, after each use. The price is a bit higher than similar chamber loaded lasers. When I used the laser on a indoor range, high powered firearms in adjacent lanes caused the laser to fire with each round fired, rendering it mostly useless in an active indoor range. (So use it in your basement). I would recommend the LaserLyte Pros: Ease of use, Accurate, Saves ammo, Comact Cons: Batteries, Price, Sensitivity

The LT Pro will make your dry fire sessions more fun and productive. The brief laser dot allows you to see where your shot would have gone. The unit is compact enough that it doesn't interfere with holster fit. A couple of issues cropped up. The manual says to remove the batteries between use. Laserlyte isn't kidding! I didn't remove the batteries and they went dead overnight. When I tried to use it in my .45, I couldn't get the arbor to expand enough to hold the unit in the barrel. I called Laserlyte and they said it was a design decision to require removal of the 3 micro button batteries between uses. It held down the cost of the unit. They also had some complaints about the .45 fit issue prior to mine. They sent an arbor set for their boresighter which included a bigger arbor...at no charge. Fixed the .45 fit issue. Nice customer service. Pros: Gives feedback during dry fire, saves ammo Cons: Must remove batteries between uses, didn't fit .45 cal

Good news is that the unit self-centers on gun's barrel and aims true. Unit stays on for ~200 milliseconds and is actuated by noise of firing pin being released. The laser flash on target is easy to see when indoors, but might be a problem outdoors. Worked great on XDM .45 ACP, but a real pain to fit into my Kahr 9mm. The black nylon bushing at rear of light was very tight in the smaller caliber. Turning unit on/off requires removing battery or placing plastic insulator in battery stack. Either way is a pain, but probably necessary to keep packaging small enough to fit into barrel. Pros: Self-centering on barrel. True aim-point. Cons: Expensive. Hard to turn on/off.

This is a great training tool. Only complaint was one set of batteries was already dead when it arrived. Then placed second set and those also died within 200 shots. Pros: Versatility, easy to use, great trainer Cons: eats batteries at the cyclic rate

It's a cool device when it works but the plastic piece used adjusted to the barrel size and used to hold the device in place is just not good. Movement makes it loosen up... adjusting it can make it difficult to insert, it doesn't hold the device well in the gun. functionally, I'm experiencing approx 30% "failure" rate (across multiple guns) when using it. Since it's sound activated, it doesn't always go off when the trigger is pulled so you will get a ton of "type 1 malfunction" practice if you like. I will probably get rid of mine for the first available firing pin activated type device I can get my hands on when some are actually shipping. Pros: Great Concept Cons: Marginal implementation

The first laser trainer pro arrived and did not work properly. The threads where the batteries were located were poorly cut and dirty, so I believe it made poor contact and therefore worked improperly. I returned the item to LaserLyte and they were excellent in returning a fully functioning unit as well as a new 12 pack of batteries. So customer service gets an A+. I have used the laser in a Beretta 96, Ruger GP100 and an AR15. It responds well to your shots giving you a quick red laser hit each time the trigger is pulled. It definitely seems to help in practicing pulling a double action trigger without jerking. Of course, it won't solve the problem of flinching but for its intended use...it works well. I use snap caps and therefore can practice pulling the triggers all day without damaging the firing pins or firing a shot. Pros: Well designed, simple, small. Cons: Expensive

I can get the mussel memory on how to aim w/o using iron sights. Just what I wanted, to train for a shot in the dark, which is most likely when I would ever need my shot to be accurate, as per some bg in my home, at night, lights off, no time for an iron sight aim. I am now confident to shoot w/o iron sight aim because I am now hitting everything at which I point and fire the laser dot. This makes me confident which I believe will hold hesitation time to a minimum, increasing safety for my family and me. When not in use, I need to keep the plastic spacer between the battery and contact spring to prevent battery drain. Thank you for a great product. Pros: performs exaxtly as described, saves money on ammo, range fees, convenient Cons: nothing worth the mention

First, the batteries must be removed each time after using or battery life will be less than two days. Must unscrew unit and remove top to "Turn off" and stop battery depletion. Hence, one must remove unit from weapon after each use, unscrew top of laser unit. Alignment might be required after setup. Sometimes the aim is off, so the laser unit must be removed and re-inserted to get good sighting. And since unit must be removed from pistol after each use to preserve battery life, definitely not as convenient as could be. Still workable. Just takes a little time Pros: When set up, will provide good training Cons: Battery life, Must be set up to aim accurately

great product / system but you have to manually remove the battery each time you use it or it'll drain down. also, i have to rotate it around a bit and test it before it's accurate. Pros: Easy setup Cons: battery life, must be tweaked for accuracy

I could not recommend this product more. It allows for safe dry practice and quick assessment of trigger control and accuracy from a draw. Additionally it allows practice of off-hand/off-balance techniques and without spending a dime on ammo. I have validated the usefulness of this product when taking my drills to live fire at the range. Pros: Can be used with any type of holster, allows accurate feedback of draw and shoot techniques Cons: Need one for shotgun/rifle!

I've only had the Laser Trainer for two days, but my experience so far has been positive. I would have given it 5 stars but the laser is too long for my S&W snub-nose with a 1 7/8 inch barrel. I worked around this by wrapping a little scotch tape around the center of the laser. This compensates for the fluted end not being able fit in the barrel. This laser is excellent for practicing instinctive aiming, plus you don't have to buy ammo, clean your gun, or drive somewhere to shoot.

This is an excellent product. I have used it for .45, .38, 22LR. The only drawback is that the insulator that has to be installed between usages to avoid run down batteries is really small and easily lost. Pros: convenient, can be used with holster Cons: msut be insulated bewteen uses,

I shoot SASS "gunfighter" category. Have greatly reduced my shot sequence time. (40% for a string of 10. Made targets of truck-trailer reflector tape applied to hobby/craft frames. Pros: Easy to set up. Bright. Reliable. Cons: Caliber adjust is quirky. Wrapped the lasers in masking tape for a good fit

The disconnect mechinecism is not user friendly. The threaded connections are not very durable. Other than that this product is a must have item. Cons: The threaded ends are not very durable. Concider another way to disconnect the batteries. The constant opening and closing theadapter end wears the threads out.

The device is very sensitive to noise and flashes on the cocking hammer movement when the double action mopde is used (as with a double action revolver). It works as advertised in the single action mode , though. Pros: easy to set up Cons: flashes on the cocking hammer movement

Short battery life is true. Difficult screw connection is true. I suspect that some complaints could be actually caused by the fragile tiny spring that easily gets lost (that part should be available for replacement). However, skillful care makes dry-fire more interesting. Pros: great for dry-dry practice Cons: tiny spring on top of batteries too fragile and difficult

The item purchaser works great and has improved my accuracy when shooting. My only negative issue was and this is not fault of OPTICS WAS THE MISSING batteries, a plastic part and the Allen wrench. Now that I have all the parts (just received about 10 minutes ago) all is well and works great. Respectfully, Rich

I bought this for dry fire practice and it works as advertised. The lack of a on/off switch means either removing the tiny batteries after each use or replacing the even smaller battery insulator in the case. It takes a bit of fussing to get the proper tight barrel fit and the absolute accuracy of the device with repeated holstering and drawing I have some doubts about, but it is probably close enough and overall it has been helpful in developing pistol skills. If only it was about $20 cheaper it would be nearly perfect. Pros: does what it says it will do Cons: no on/off switch, a bit finicky to fit properly, repeatable accuracy?

The laserLyte is a top notch training device. I use it in both my 9mm and my 1911s in .45 acp. I've already noticed improvement in my marksmanship after only several weeks training with the LaserLyte. The only thing I would change is the need to remove the batteries or install an insulator when not in use to prevent the batteries from discharging. It's inconvenient. Pros: excellent training aide, easy to use. Cons: Removing batteries between uses.

Cuts hours off of training time. Cuts many training dollars in ammunition expenses. While not eye safe, it enables you to train rapidly to a higher standard performing training tasks restricted or forbidden at most ranges. Pros: Feedback from sound activated laser footprint Cons: Batteries are short lived, drain easily and are expensive.

As with every LaserLyte product I have purchased they can be a little tricky at first. But once you figure out barrel size adjustment (without getting it stuck in barrel) and remember to always disengage batteries it works great!
